Purpose of Job:

Under general supervision, to serve large quantity main dishes, baked goods, and other foods; to assist in maintaining a school food service unit in a sanitary, safe and orderly condition; perform other job-related duties as required.

Primary Job Duties/Responsibilities:   The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned as needed.

General Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Following menus serves main dishes, baked goods and other foods
  • Assists in cleaning and storing food service equipment and food supplies
  • Assists manager in maintaining records (e.g. counting and recording the amount of leftovers, number of opened cans, etc.) for the purpose of keeping accurate record of food used
  • Lifts and carries moderately heavy supplies to and from kitchen and storeroom, with assistance as necessary
  • Attend in-services and training, as required

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Project a positive image of the LSSD at all times
  • Keep information confidential concerning school business
  • Act in a professional manner at all times
  • May operate a motor vehicle to conduct various work activities
  • Successful completion of Criminal Justice fingerprint/background process and drug screen
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Experience and Education

  • High School Diploma
  • Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities to perform the essential job functions is qualifying.

Knowledge of

  • Safe work practices including OSHA regulations, as they relate to the position
  • Commercial food service sanitation and safety practices and procedures
  • Operation, cleaning, and caring for cooking/baking utensils and equipment
  • USDA and Tennessee Health Code provisions and guidelines concerning handling of food and food service supplies and equipment

     Skill and Ability to

  • Serve meats, main dishes, baked goods and other foods in large quantity
  • Safely use a variety of food service equipment
  • Identify workplace hazards and/or unsafe conditions and take appropriate action to correct
  • Read and write English at a level sufficient to successfully perform the duties associated with the position
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions
  • Establish and maintain cooperative, working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Child Nutrition Administrative Supervisor or Director of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.

Abilities/Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this classification, the incumbent is frequently required to stand, walk, crouch, kneel, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. Employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.

 

While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent regularly works in inside environmental conditions that may be warm.  The employee frequently uses repetitive motion. The employee will be required to attend inservices and training. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Individual is subject to frequent interruptions.
