Purpose of Job:

Provide classroom instruction and management in the absence of classroom teacher.

Primary Job Duties/Responsibilities:  The following duties are normal for this job.  These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned as needed.

General Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Provide instruction to students in assigned classrooms while regular teacher is absent, by implementing lesson plans in a manner that motivates students to learn and participate
  • Maintain established routines and procedures of classroom and school to which assigned
  • Establish and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner
  • Complies and supports school and district standards and policies
  • Report any student injuries, illnesses, and discipline problems to school administration
  • Work cooperatively and professionally with staff members and parents
  • Maintain consistent flexibility to be present at work when needed upon short notice
  • Maintain and respect confidentiality of students and school personnel information

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Project a positive image of the LSSD at all times
  • Keep information confidential concerning school business
  • Act in a professional manner at all times
  • May operate a motor vehicle to conduct various work activities
  • Successful completion of Criminal Justice fingerprint/background process and drug screen
  • Dress neatly and appropriately, according to system staff dress code
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.  Two years of college preferred.
  • Must be able to follow oral and written directions and have the ability to establish effective working relationships with staff and students
  • Ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Principal or Director of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable

Abilities/Physical Requirements

Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for active light work in a classroom setting.  Must be able to stand and walk prolonged periods of time, as needed, to monitor students in cafeteria, halls, and classrooms.
