Purpose of Job:

To assist in the organization, management, leadership and monitoring of the Lebanon Special School DistrictSpecial Education Program

Primary Job Duties/Responsibilities:  The following duties are normal for this job.  These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned as needed.

General Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Collaborate and coordinate with system-wide administrators, supervisors and principals in the implementation of quality instructional programming
  • Assist with the system-wide regular education pre-referral and intervention process (via the Response to Intervention approach utilized through the Lebanon Special School District)
  • Serve as a liaison between the regular and special education programs by attending and participating in appropriate meetings, committees and initiatives
  • Confer with personnel responsible for school/system accountability programs and ensure proper implementation of IDEA and ESSA requirements
  • Confer with and assist teachers on a one-to-one basis as well as small groups in organizational, compliance, instructional and management techniques
  • Abide by the Tennessee Teacher Code of Ethics
  • Attend/supervise teachers at IEP, reevaluation, and eligibility meetings and provide meaningful participation for parent involvement during meetings
  • Assist with the coordination, supervision and evaluation of the Special Education Program including instructional programming, resources/materials/equipment and students’ Individual Education Plans
  • Ensure compliance under all state and federal mandates including but not limited to IDEA and ESSA
  • Monitor and ensure the Special Education Program’s effectiveness on a regular basis utilizing available data
  • Plan, facilitate and implement staff development and professional growth experiences for Special Education teachers, principals, administrative staff and parents consistent with teacher and program evaluation outcomes
  • Help develop administrative procedures and prepare state and federal reports per compliance mandates
  • Serve as a representative and advisor to community and/or system organizations as appropriate
  • Ensure that the use of the district’s resources (time, money, people) are used in the most strategic and effective way possible

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Project a positive image of the LSSD at all times and support district goals
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of district information
  • Support the effective delivery of a high quality of education for all students
  • Provide exceptional levels of professional support and service to staff and public
  • May operate a motor vehicle to conduct various work activities
  • Successful completion of Criminal Justice fingerprint/background process and drug screen

Qualifications:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Master’s degree
  • Five years successful teaching experience in a Special Education program
  • Valid teaching license with special education endorsement
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Special Education Director or Director of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable

Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for active light work in an office setting.
